What is it when someone quickly looks away when you approach? Is it not good news or was she just nervous?

You really need to make a move on her. Just looking and thinking will get you nowhere. The worst thing that could happen is she says no. Even then you would have closure. If you just ignore each other and let her go who knows how long you'll be stuck wondering what might have been. Go for it!!!
